Peru: Horticultural exports increased 32% in first quarter

According to statistics from the Peruvian Guild Association of Agricultural Producers (AGAP), exports of fruit and vegetables increased by 32% during the first four months of 2014 when compared to the same period last year.

During this period, this sector's exports amounted to U.S. $557 million.

The items that presented the greatest increases were the blueberries (438.1%), citrus (+95.9%), fresh grapes (+77.8%) and mangoes (25.6%).

The main market destinations include Europe with $241 million dollars and Asia with $151 million dollars. Exports to the United States amounted to U.S. $138 million.

The Asian market grew by 93 percent when compared to the first quarter of 2013, due to an increase in imports of table grapes.

Fresh fruit and vegetable exports have achieved a remarkable development level of 1,348 percent between 2000 and 2013, from 105 million to 1.526 million .
