The Hatakeshimeji

New Asian mushroom makes its way into Europe

Westland Mushrooms introduces a new mushroom: the Hatakeshimeji. The Hatakeshimeji finds its origin as a wild forest mushroom and has been successfully cultivated in China. Besides being very tasteful, the Hatakeshimeji is healthy and full of nutrients favourable to human health like amino acids, dietary minerals, Vitamin B and Beta dextran. Beta dextran has multiple medicinal uses and is said to reduce cholesterol levels.

The domestic cultivation of the Hatakeshimeji is the result of many years of research. After the successful introduction of exotic mushrooms like Shimeji and Eryngii in the European market, the interest for this newcomer - the Hatakeshimeji - could spike quite rapidly.

A similar effect was observed when Shimeji mushrooms first came to the European market only a couple of years ago. Since then, the market for the exotic mushroom has strengthened a lot and Shimeji’s found their way to many a family’s dinner table. Different marketing strategies have been instrumental to convince early adaptors. Many free tastings, samples, promotions and gift items helped people to reach their first culinary experiences with Shimeji’s. Similar strategies will be applied to support the introduction of Hatakeshimeji as well.
