Almost half of peppers imported by the EU supplied by Spain

In 2013, Spain was the European Union's largest pepper supplier. From the 1,117 million kilos imported by the EU, 46.35% were purchased from Spain, 35.37% from the Netherlands and the remaining 6.82% from Morocco, according to data provided by Euroestacom (Eurostat-Icex).

Spain shipped a total of 518.16 million kilos at an average of 1.44 Euro/kilo, obtaining a total turnover of 747.57 million Euro.

In second place, the Netherlands sold a total of 395.38 million kilos to its EU partners at an average of 1.96 Euro/kilo (774.29 million Euro).

Morocco was the third largest supplier, with 76.28 million kilos, 74.80 million Euro and an average price of 0.98 Euro/kilo.

Destinations
The EU country purchasing the most peppers was Germany, with 337.60 million kilos, for which it paid a total of 640.25 million Euro (an average of 1.9 Euro/kilo).

The second largest client was the United Kingdom, with 169.73 million kilos purchased. The UK paid an average of 1.70 Euro/kilo, with a total expenditure amounting to 289.09 million Euro.

France stood in third place, with a total of 117.08 million kilos imported, for which it paid 154.58 million Euro; an average of 1.32 Euro/kilo.
