Early harvest potatoes starting in Italy

The early harvest of new potatoes started recently in Sicily. Reports the German Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI) on their website. However no large quantities are expected yet. This means that the very high prices the growers are receiving at the moment, approx. 45 Euro per 100 kg, will be maintained a while longer.

Contracts for April have already been agreed, so we will be looking at prices of 35 Euro per 100 kg, in the upcoming week as the supply increases. The potatoes harvested right now, are almost exclusively intended for the domestic market. In addition the early harvest will also be expanded causing a fast increasing supply is expected in the coming weeks.
