Italy: Low temperatures slow down new potatoes

"It would seem that the new potato season has started, but consumption slowed down a bit this week because of lower temperatures," say managers from F.lli Torti S.r.l

The company is importing and selling Bellini new potatoes from Tunisia. "The produce looks good and is very tasty, as always."

Above and below: "dirty" and clean produce. As can be seen, there is not much of a difference because sand is not as heavy as other types of soil.

"Some batches will still arrive before custom duties start (1st April), then we will stop importing as there could be an increase of €0.03-0.04 per kilo."

"We think that all producers have approached this market, but for us it will not go on at least until next month."
