German state Brandenburgh harvest first cucumber

The cucumber harvest will soon start in the German state of Brandenburg, the 'Berliner Zeiting' reports on its website. "It will start at the beginning of April," Andreas Jende, secretary of the horticultural union Berlin-Brandenburgh, said in Potsdam last week. He was referring to the cucumber harvest in greenhouses. According to information from the union, the state grew cucumbers on 4.2 hectares here last year. The harvest yield was at 761 tonnes. Jende said it was a small segment compared to other types of vegetables. Manager Klaus Henschel reported that Fontana Gartenbau GmbH in Manschnow has been harvesting cucumbers since the beginning of last week.
