Auchan could open in Tunisia by 2016

Auchan's Tunisian partner, the group Magasin Général (MG) hope to see the French distributor on the Tunisian market. ''We are working on obtaining the authorisation to open a hypermarket within the framework of the partnership established between the company Magasin Général and French group Auchan'' whose demand has already been denied by officials for reasons ''related to choice of project's location within an urban development plan''.

Tahar Bayahi, who runs MG, is not losing hope. He optimistically announces the opening of the first Auchan hypermarket for 2016, on the chance that an agreement can be met. He explains that Auchan will eventually install 5 ''living centres'' in the country.

The Bayahi group, which was severely affected by the Arab spring, reports a 750 million dinar (€343 million) turnover in 2013 and intends to reach the 900 million (€412 million) bar by 2015.
