Elbe-Obst goes high tech

During the 2012/13 financial year, German growers association Elbe-Obst achieved a turnover of 116.5 million Euro and sold more than 164,000 tons of fruit, announced secretary Stefan Moje during their meeting in Jork last Thursday.

The growers organization is still the largest in the lower Elbe where 398 members grow apples, pears, stonefruit and softfruit across an area of 5.216 hectares. Elbe-Obst President Hans-Herbert zum Felde announced a million Euro investment into new sorting and storage techniques. In the Ostfeld production area in Jork, an estimated six million Euro is to be invested in renewal and expansion of the sorting plant due to the higher demands being set by the food production industry - in general the percentage on red apples for discounters must be more than 30% - Elbe-Obst wish to invest in their sorting technique.
