Hamburg: 60 percent of the open field acreage was used for growing lettuce in 2013

In all 110 companies have grown their vegetables on an area of 487 hectares in the German region Hamburg in 2013. Reports the German website Fruchthandel.de. While the acreage stayed just as big in comparison to the previous year, the amount of producing companies decreased with three percent. Most of the companies were growing root vegetables. In addition 60 percent of the open field acreage was used for growing lettuce. Acreage for lettuce grew with 14% to 264 hectares in comparison to 2012.
