SENASA reminds producers of obligation to breed certified citrus plants under cover

SENASA reminded producers it was obligatory to breed certified citrus plants under cover in order to prevent the Huanglongbing (HLB), as its main form of transmission is through the propagation of diseased citrus material.

The HLB is a destructive citrus disease and Argentina is free from it. Since 2009, SENASA has carried out its National Program for Prevention of the disease to prevent its introduction and safeguard citrus production areas.

The greatest difficulty in the management of the disease is its large latency: the plants present no visible symptoms between six months and two years. Thus, one of the phytosanitary measures to prevent the HLB is the production of certified citrus plants under cover, in accordance with the provisions of SENASA's Resolution 930/09 and ex SAGPyA 149/98 .
