EU: Fewer organic vegetables grown in 2012

European growers have cultivated organic products over more than 11 million hectares, reports the German Agricultural Information Bureau (AMI) on their website. This was a 6% increase on 2011. Approximately 2% of European farmland was given over to organic farming, and throughout the EU this percentage lay around 5.6%.

Organic cultivation within the EU decreased by 6,000 hectares compared to the previous year to total 9,000 hectares, bringing the total organic acreage to 5% of the total EU cultivation area.
