Peru: Great start to grape export season

According to Adex, the first three months of the table grape's export season (i.e. from October to December 2013) amounted to USD 314.5 million, 21.4% more than in the same period of the previous campaign (2012/2013).

Adex Data Trade's Business Intelligence System reported that, between October and December 2013, Peruvian grapes were exported to a total of 54 markets, led by the U.S., with $81.6 million dollars (up 32.6%), followed by the Netherlands (46.3%) and the UK (25.9%).

Other destination markets of the Peruvian grape were Russia (24.3%), China, Canada, Thailand, South Korea and Hong Kong. The product was also sent to countries such as Estonia, Poland, Bulgaria, Egypt, Cameroon, Gabon, Libya and Swaziland.

The Netherlands could increase their demand of Peruvian grape
According to Adex's Department of Economic Studies, Peruvian grapes have 9% of the Dutch market share, ranking third, behind South Africa (32%) and Chile (21%).

In that regard, they stressed, shipments of the fruit from Peru have great potential when it comes to improving their position. Peruvian exports have been growing at an average rate of 56% in the last five years, while Chile's exports have receded 5% and South African exports have only grown by 5%.
