The importer says that the weather in Costa Rica has been fine for the melon production. "We have had little to no rain during the seeding period and then there was enough rainfall during the rice season from June to October. In connection with the weather conditions we are working with two areas on Costa Rica for the watermelons, Parrita and Guancaste."
"The expectation is that more yellow melons with come from Costa Ruca this season and that the volume of watermelons will remain the same. The market for yellow melons and watermelons is excellent and the supply from Brazil is decreasing earlier than last year. As a result we have already managed to get the arrivals until the end of this week in presales, which rarely happens," says Frank. "Last year we had a lot of bother from white fly in Costa Rica, but none has been signalled so far."
Levarht has once again invested in an intensive collaboration with the gardeners. "Everything is GlobalGAP, TN- and ETI certified. The boxes are plasticised again, as in other year," says Frank. Besides the Costa Rican melons Levarht has also started Galia and Cantaloupe melons from Honduras.
