Granfrutta Zani

Italy: Fruit Logistica is most important trade fair

Granfrutta Zani arrives at Fruit Logistica after an overall positive year. In 2013, the company sold around 25,000 tonnes of peaches and nectarines (20% less than 2012), 8,500 tonnes of plums (-15%) and around 3,000 tonnes of apricots (-40%).

"Peaches did well until July but quotations were much lower after that. Plums did well apart for the Angeleno variety, as prices were low, and the price of apricots was also good."

As regards winter fruit, Granfrutta Zani says that kiwis are doing well on the market (around 11,500 tonnes), especially since demand overseas is good.

"Unfortunately we cannot say the same for pears (9,500 tonnes, +50% with respect to 2012) as the market never reached the expectations of producers. Apples (around 15,000 tonnes) are also important for us. Initially demand and prices were good but recently consumption dropped significantly."

In 2013 Granfrutta Zani sold 60% of its production to the domestic market (90% to retailers) and the remaining part was exported to Germany, Norway, UK and Switzerland.

"In 2013, we have consolidated our Solatia brand and we have also invested in two Ecopunnet packaging lines in order to contain processing costs, as they are often way too high," adds the sales manager.

Many representatives of the company will attend Fruit Logistica, as the company considers the event to be the most important in this sector. In addition to director general Sandro Zani and Raffaele Bucella, representative of the Italian sales office, the whole foreign sales office (Enrico Silighini, Marco Sanviti and Francesca Borghi), Euro Bassi, manager for South America, chairman Pier Luigi Drei and some advisers will also take part.

Granfrutta Zani will be at the CSO Centro servizi ortofrutticoli di Ferrara stand in Piazza Italia, Hall 2.2, Stand A-02.
