New grape varieties a big hit in Hong Kong
Vince Brullo, was at Asia Fruit Logistica in Hong Kong at the beginning of September to promote the company's newest grape varieties. The new varieties include Sweet Safire (Witches Finger), Cotton Candy, Sweet Jubilee and Sweet Celebration. The grapes are grown in Australia by Doojon Fresh but at the moment grape volumes are being supplied by the US until the domestic crop comes into production in 2 years’ time.
"The reaction in Hong Kong was phenomenal," according to Vince. "People are bored of the regular grape varieties, these new ones are funky, super sweet and full of flavour."
Supply will be almost year-round with the US supplying directly when Australia is in the off season.
Vince is also looking forward to the start of the Australian cherry season which starts at the beginning of November. Australia has the go ahead to export to mainland China out of Tasmania, which is very good for exports as China is one of the fastest growing markets. Wandin Valley Farms is their major supplier.
Australia Fruits will exporting Bing, Lapin, Samba, Sweetheart, Regina, Sweet Georgia and Kordia cherries.
