Crunchy new Greenstar and Kanzi apples

A new apple that stays naturally white hours after it’s sliced into a lunch box – no lemon juice, no additives, no preservatives? Sounds impossible, but true - it’s the all-natural, incredibly sweet and crunchy Greenstar apple.

Together with its brilliantly crunchy and sweet stablemate Kanzi, this new duo is the hottest thing in the fresh produce marketplace this autumn, and available now (March) through to June at many major and independent grocery retailers.

The words on the lips of every chef and foodie are “seasonality” and “provenance” and for good reason... seasonal and Australian fresh produce like the Greenstar and Kanzi apples, simply taste better. Thanks in part to the influence of hugely popular shows such as MasterChef, the Cook & the Chef, Gourmet Farmer and My Kitchen Rules, consumers are increasingly drawn to Aussie-grown produce in season, and to exciting new types of produce and new apples like Greenstar and Kanzi.

Greenstar has particular star appeal to cooks and chefs alike, with its amazing ability to stay white for hours after being cut, due to a naturally high Vitamin C content. This makes Greenstar perfect for gourmet cheese platters, lunch boxes, fruit salads and a host of other food service ideas.

A great alternative to early picked Granny Smith, Greenstar provides consumers with a seriously sweet green-skinned apple, so juicy and refreshing that it’s referred to as the ‘ultimate thirst quencher’.

Not to be outdone, Kanzi is a bright red-skinned apple with the juiciness of a Gala and the fantastic spritzy tartness of New Zealand’s famous Braeburn, creating a unique sweet and sour flavour that has captured consumers throughout the world. Kanzi may look like just another red apple, but consumer tests and trends prove its taste puts Kanzi in another league.

The Greenstar Kanzi Marketing Group have produced their largest crop yet since the apples limited introduction to Australia’s premier apple growing regions through selected specialist growers three years ago. The 2013 season is estimated to be triple the 2012 volume, with sales to be supported with in-store sampling sessions, informative flyers, posters, bunting and signage on shelf.

According to Greenstar Kanzi Marketing Group head Des Muir: “The Greenstar Kanzi Marketing Group strives to grow only the highest quality fruit in Australia’s premiere apple growing regions. All the growers are committed to growing the best tasting apples Australia has ever known.”

Look out for Kanzi and Greenstar apples this autumn and remember our delectable apples have a short season, so get in early!
