South Africa: ExperiCo success a real peach

ExperiCo (Agri-Research Solutions), a South African leader in agricultural research, was founded on a solid foundation more than 30 years ago by the then present Deciduous Fruit Board. Its goal since then has been to cater to the technology needs of the South African fruit industry – support that is now offered to both local and international clients.

A large amount of ExperiCo’s research is done on behalf of international partners, in particular USA-based clients. The business is firmly focussed on the near and post-harvest quality management of fruit in order to enhance yield and quality. It’s also equipped to accommodate other research needs in the fields of chemical development and testing, new variety development, harvesting, handling, packaging and storage technologies

From humble beginnings as a purely research department consisting of only four staff members, the company has grown from strength to strength and currently services 30–40 clients annually. In 2011, the company joined the Farmsecure Group, as a division of Farmsecure Agri Science, thus expanding the Group’s already impressive agricultural sciences offering.

Backed by Farmsecure which has a presence throughout the entire agricultural value chain, ExperiCo has valuable access to the complete ‘farm to shelf’ process. This allows for a greater understanding of the needs of, and challenges faced by fruit producers.

“ExperiCo has been able to flourish and grow as a business. Our highly talented and dedicated team, as well as the loyal support of local fruit growers and local and international clients, have made this possible,” says Martin Taylor, General Manager: ExperiCo. “We have played a significant role in assisting South Africa to be a leading fruit exporter through our participation in developing technologies for table grapes, pome fruit and stone fruit, and we aim to continue fulfilling this role in the future.”

ExperiCo’s passionate dedication keeps it at cutting edge of agricultural research. There’s no doubt it will continue to grow its service offerings and global client base through a generous helping of excellence and innovation.
