Fruit Logistica, Hall 3.1 Stand D-09

ILIP present sustainability in Berlin

A few weeks before Fruit Logistica 2013, FreshPlaza Roberto Zanichelli, Marketing Manager at ILIP talked about the Bologna based company going to to Berlin.

"The main topic that we will try to express and emphasize at Fruit Logistica is the environmental sustainability of Ilip, which we are improving with the implementation of our new strategic positioning and the objectives of Social and Environmental responsibility of the company", confirms Roberto.

"Firstly, Ilpa srl, the company in which Ilip is the load-bearing division, is the only manufacturer of food packaging for European food that has integrated vertically the r-PET cycle, namely the recycled PET: from post-consumer bottles to food containers, controlling the entire process from material selection to finished product, ensuring total traceability".

"It is a closed virtuous cycle, in which the packaging is considered as a reused resource even after its end-of-life".

"The graphics of the stand, says the marketing co-ordinator, will be dedicated to this topic and will show a video which shows the entire cycle, from the bottle wash to thermoforming baskets of fruits and vegetables. The video will be available on our site and on Youtube.

"The second point on which Ilip is focused, is regarding reducing food waste. To this end, it supports the Save Food initiative, sponsored by FAO and aimed at reducing food waste. Packaging plays an important role in the protection of packaged food and waste reduction. Even our adherence to Save Food will be highlighted in our stand design".

"The research we did with the Department of Arboriculture (now the Department of Agricultural Sciences) of the University of Bologna, which has compared different packaging types (baskets) and was aimed at verifying the effect of our products on the packaged vegetables and fruits. Thus, we assume responsibility and we try to improve the technical-functional characteristics of our packaging with full knowledge of the facts” explains Roberto Zanichelli.

"The third issue highlighted at Fruit Logistica is regarding the new range of heat sealable TS baskets for delicate fruit and with high added value products, as berries, strawberries and cherry tomatoes".

"The heat sealing as a packaging system, explains Roberto, allows packaging reduction. A small basket which was packaged previously with cover, now it can be made with a heat sealed film, removing the cover while preserving all the packaging appeal and the product contained in the foreground. The film also can be customized allowing brand policies and specific product packaged".

"This year we are on Hall 3.1 Stand D-09. We have decided to stand at the most technical pavilion, where they expose machinery products for the supply chain of vegetable and fruits, in order to emphasize that the packaging is an important component in the supply chain, as it brings value to the product”.

"There should always be a quality packaging between the consumer and the fruit and vegetable product in order to protect the packaged product, to reduce food waste, to ensure the consumer the food safety and hygiene, to differentiate it from so many other packaged products and to create product branding policies", says Roberto Zanichelli
