The open days for the Red Lina variety, organized by Citrus Rosso with support from the Compañía de Variedades Vegetales Protegidas (CVVP), took place on November 6 and 7 in Sagunto (Valencia).

Over two days, growers, nurserymen, and technicians from the citrus industry had the chance to learn directly about the characteristics and agronomic behavior of this pink-fleshed orange, which is distinguished by its lycopene content, a potent natural antioxidant with health benefits, as well as its high levels of phytoene and phytofluene.
Red Lina is a spontaneous mutation of Navelina that matures and can be harvested at least two weeks earlier than the original variety. "Its main distinguishing feature is its excellent flavor as well as the coloration of the pulp, creating a noticeable taste and aromatic difference that is especially important at the challenging start of the season," Citrus Rosso stated.
"The visits took place at an evaluation plot in a mid-ripening zone, where Red Lina trees grafted onto Citrange reed rootstock in July 2023 demonstrated healthy, promising growth without any special treatments or phytohormones that could influence the fruit. The visitors observed the variety's strong field performance and the fruit's internal and external quality under normal growing conditions," the company said.

According to Citrus Rosso, compared to Navel Cara Cara, Red Lina ripens at least five weeks earlier, has a more orange-colored flavedo, round fruit, a closed navel, and greater tolerance to active limestone. "These attributes, together with its balanced and intense flavor, position it as a variety with great commercial projection in both national and international markets," they stated.
"This activity reaffirms our commitment to facilitate the development and improve the results of the exploitation of the varieties we manage, promoting technical exchange and innovation within the citrus sector," the CVVP stated. Red Lina offers a reliable alternative for growers seeking early varieties with excellent flavor and aroma, visual differentiation, and healthy properties, in line with current consumer trends.
