Sweet potato tailgating promotion launches

Bako Sweet® is suiting up for its first-ever Game Day Tailgating promotion, giving retailers a fresh opportunity to score incremental sales this fall. Available September and October, the brand's product lineup will feature limited-time football-themed packaging and in-store displays designed to capture shopper attention during one of the highest consumption seasons of the year.

The promotion includes organic and conventional sweet potato trays, organic and conventional 3 lb. and 5 lb. mesh bags, and the fan-favorite single sweets – wrapped sweet potatoes that are washed, ready to microwave, and now dressed to look like footballs. Vibrant Game Day Tailgating display bins feature the "Sweeten Game Day Tailgating" theme, complete with a football goal post graphic, sweet potato appetizer imagery, and a sweet potato sister character dressed in football gear.

Sweet potatoes continue to outpace both the total produce and potato categories in dollar and pound sales growth across the U.S., and the brand is the #1 sweet potato brand in dollar sales nationwide (NielsenIQ Syndicated Data, 52 Weeks Ending 6/29/24). With 85 percent of consumers making unplanned produce purchases, visually engaging displays like Bako Sweet's Game Day Tailgating bins give retailers a way to inspire impulse buys, especially during high-energy shopping periods.

To extend the excitement beyond the store, the brand will share a lineup of tailgating and grilling recipes across its social media channels and partner with influencers to create Game Day-inspired content. With promotional activity accounting for over 30 percent of vegetable sales in 2024 (Circana, Integrated Fresh, MuLO+, 52 weeks ending 12/29/2024), these digital activations provide retailers with additional momentum to convert online engagement into in-store sales.

The Game Day packaging and displays will be available for shipment starting September 1, and retailers are encouraged to secure orders early to maximize sales during football season.
