JD Super, Camposol launch Peruvian 2025 blueberry season

JD Super, the supermarket division of JD.com, and Camposol, a Peruvian fruit exporter, marked the arrival of the initial 2025 season of Peruvian blueberries in Shanghai on July 4. This shipment, enabled by a direct-procurement collaboration, initiates the global blueberry season, highlighting JD.com's role in facilitating international brands and specialty products for the Chinese market.

In continuation of their 2024 collaboration, JD Super and Camposol have furthered their partnership to source high-grade blueberries directly from Peru's northern orchards. This year, JD Super plans to acquire over 1,000 tons of blueberries, refining the supply chain for fresher, cost-effective delivery to Chinese consumers. This process aims to remove intermediaries, optimize access to these blueberries, and reduce costs.

Arriving two weeks earlier than expected, the 2025 Peruvian blueberry season projects a yield surpassing 400,000 tons, marking a 27% rise from last year. JD Super aims for a 10% share in online sales, maintaining its stance as the top online retailer for Peruvian blueberries. The initial batch is the premium Madeira variety, with each berry graded to 16MM+ and 18MM+ sizes.

JD Super employs a detailed quality assurance strategy, with Camposol's Peruvian warehouses hosting on-site specialists to monitor product standards. JD Super also performs online quality checks, ensuring that the blueberries adhere to stringent firmness and uniformity criteria.

Blueberries are shipped via a fully sanitized cold-chain system from Peru to China, with JD Logistics providing cold-chain delivery to over 300 cities, ensuring freshness upon arrival.

Since 2018, JD Super has refined its supply chain processes, enhancing the affordability and popularity of Peruvian blueberries in China. This direct-sourcing strategy has contributed to significant growth in sales for JD's platform, raising awareness and acceptance of this fruit in the Chinese market. Peru's blueberry sector has expanded considerably, with cultivation increasing from 80 hectares in 2012 to 20,500 hectares, reflecting a 65% annual growth rate.

The collaboration between JD Super and Camposol establishes a standard for international produce partnerships, offering high-quality Peruvian blueberries to a vast audience while promoting streamlined, sustainable trade.
