Riverford Organic Farmers effectively sources ginger and turmeric from Peru

Global events such as the pandemic, Brexit, and the Ukraine conflict, coupled with erratic weather patterns, have significantly impacted food security, leading to increased prices and shortages in various food commodities.

In this context, Riverford Organic Farmers, through its Supply Chain Manager Lee Martindale, is proactively addressing these challenges by foreseeing potential shortfalls and implementing sustainable solutions. Riverford collaborates with La Grama in Peru for sourcing ginger and turmeric. Founded in 2006 by three ex-organic inspectors, La Grama was established after recognizing the vital need to support small-scale farmers and impoverished agricultural communities across Latin America. Their journey involved certifying diverse farms, ranging from small quinoa cultivators in the highlands to large banana producers in Ecuador and the Dominican Republic.
