The National Department of Works against Droughts (DNOCS), under the Ministry of Integration and Regional Development, has issued an ordinance defining the water tariff for public irrigation projects (PPIs) for 2024. The tariff, known as Water Tariff (K1), is for the use of common infrastructure and support of PPIs under DNOCS jurisdiction.
The charges for using the common infrastructure and supporting PPIs will be 10% of the respective Annual Operating Plans (POAs) presented by the districts or irrigating associations responsible for irrigation services. The services encompass all administration, operation, conservation, and maintenance actions of the projects. The Official Gazette of the Union published a table detailing the charges per project, per hectare, and year.
- Araras Norte – a fee of R$142.70 per hectare/year will be charged;
- Baixo Acaraú – tariff of R$99.68 per hectare/year;
- Brumado – rate of R$45.58 per hectare/year;
- Jaguaribe Apodi – tariff of R$258.67 per hectare/year;
- Russian Trays – rate of R$59.19 per hectare/year;
- Piauí Coastal Tabuleiros – rate of R$53.82 per hectare/year.
However, the ordinance also temporarily suspends the Water Tariff (K1) payment for certain public irrigation projects. These projects have failed to meet the requirements of Ordinance 2005/2020, as they lack valid assignment contracts with DNOCS and have critical deficiencies in their irrigation infrastructure.
