Brazil’s agricultural sector’s robust performance is evidenced by the surge in fruit shipments from Bahia. By November, these exports had surpassed R$ 1 billion, marking a 37% increase in revenue compared to the same period in 2022. According to the data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock’s foreign trade monitoring system (Agrostat/Mapa) and released by Bahia’s Secretariat of Agriculture (Seagri), Bahian producers exported 170,000 tons of fruit by November of this year, reaching a total financial turnover of R$ 1.05 billion based on the current dollar exchange rate.
Boom in fruit exports
The volume of fruit exported also saw a 19% increase compared to 2022. Mangoes and grapes were standout performers, demonstrating a value increase of 46% and 45% respectively, coupled with volume growth of 22% and 31%. Increased shipments of other fruits like pineapple, apricots, figs, guava, papaya, watermelon, lemons, and limes were also reported. This growth is primarily attributed to the high demand in Europe and the United States, as Bahia stepped in to supply these markets while producers in Peru and Ecuador grappled with extreme heat affecting their crop quality.
