Due to low demand, Ukrainian farmers are forced to sell carrots at record-low prices

Ukrainian farmers are concerned about the situation in the carrot market: prices have dropped to an all-time low, according to analysts from the EastFruit project.

According to daily monitoring of the project, today the demand for these root crops on the Ukrainian market remains catastrophically low. At the moment, sales of carrots are carried out only under previously concluded contracts, while farmers manage to sell uncontracted volumes of these products with great difficulty. In the current conditions, producers are forced to further reduce prices for carrots. So, at the moment, they are offering this root crop for sale at 5-8 UAH/kg ($0.14-0.22/kg), which is, on average, 18% cheaper than at the end of the last working week.

According to the project, this year, many Ukrainian farms have decided to increase the area under root crops, particularly carrots. At the same time, weather conditions this season were quite favorable. As a result, the supply of carrots on the market continues to increase rapidly and is already having a negative impact on prices in this segment.

Let us note that at the moment, carrots in Ukraine already cost, on average, 64% cheaper than in the same period last year. At the same time, farmers do not expect the situation to improve since the supply of carrots on the market remains excessive, and it has not yet been possible to relieve the market due to the low pace of sales in this segment.
