Super-early apples are now available in Uzbekistan 7 times cheaper than last year

Another novelty of the season has become available in the supermarkets of the capital of Uzbekistan – super-early apples – apples of a very small caliber which are commonly called “May” apples. Despite their name, they can be sold in retail in the second half or at the end of April, EastFruit experts note.

This season, super-early apples became available on the shelves of supermarkets in the capital of Uzbekistan a few days earlier than last year, but at an average price of 7 times cheaper than in April 2022!

On April 17, 2023, the Korzinka supermarket chain announced the start of sales of “May apples” at a retail price of 17 990 UZS/kg ($1.57). However, they are available so far in four stores of this chain in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan.

For comparison, as of April 19, 2023, last year’s apples of popular varieties in the capital’s supermarkets were sold at prices ranging from 11 500 to 18 000 UZS/kg (from $1.00 to $1.57).

In the spring of 2022, apples of super-early varieties became available in retail sales in metropolitan supermarkets on April 20-23 at a price of 117 000 to 129 990 UZS/kg (from $10.4 to $11.5/kg).

We remind you that the season of mass harvesting of early apples of a new crop in Uzbekistan usually begins in mid-May. It was during this period that Uzbekistan began the first export shipments of early apples. However, the main volumes of apples are exported in the summer months.
