A friendly buying environment was met by a confident supply of mandarins and clementines, where the familiar Spanish Clemenules and numerous Satsumas from Turkey dominated the trade. Italian 500 g packages as well as Moroccan clementines complemented the activities on some markets. According to the BLE, prices for the primary assortment remained at last week’s levels.
Fresh, excellent-tasting 75-82 Clemenvilla from Spain was priced at €21 to 22 per 10-kg crate in Hamburg. In Berlin, rates were driven down by recurring returns of Spanish net produce from food retailers, limiting regular handling.
Apples
The assortment had not changed significantly, with domestic offerings still dominating: Elstar, Jonagold and Boskoop formed the basis. Tenroy/Royal Gala, Braeburn, Santana, Topaz, Wellant and Pinova followed in terms of importance. The seasonal Red Delicious from Italy, often marketed as a Christmas apple, was omnipresent as well.
Pears
Italian varieties dominated the scene, alongside Turkish Santa Maria, followed by domestic, Belgian and Dutch Conference. Locally, native Alexander Lucas, Boscs bottle pear and Gute Luise from the Netherlands complemented the scene. Italian Abate Fetel and Williams Christ were in demand and again moved up slightly in price.
Table grapes
Extensive assortments from various parts of the world dominated this week's events. Peruvian fruit became massively more important: in addition to Crimson and Thompson Seedless, Red Globe and various IFG and Sugra varieties were the most popular, and their great quality was generally convincing.
Oranges
Spanish Navelina dominated the scene. They were complemented by Valencia Late, Midknight and Delta Seedless from South Africa. Navelina from Italy and Greece as well as Turkish Washington Navel appeared only sporadically. The supply of blood oranges strengthened but remained manageable, with only a few, mostly weakly colored Moro, Tarocco from Italy available.
Bananas
Sales proceeded in a calm manner, satisfying customers' inclinations. In the week leading up to Christmas, prices did not change significantly. Berlin reported reduced arrivals during the reporting week due to bottlenecks in producing countries and still high production and logistics costs.
Cucumbers
Spanish cucumbers seemed to have a monopoly, with a few Belgian, Greek and Moroccan cucumbers supplementing the trade here and there. Business was mixed and prices developed accordingly.
Tomatoes
TOVs now came in mainly from Belgium, the Netherlands and Spain. Shipments from Morocco and Turkey completed the assortment locally. Round tomatoes were mainly supplied from Morocco, with Spanish and Turkish offerings rounding out the market. Cherry tomatoes came from the Netherlands, Spain and Italy.
Sweet peppers
Again, Spanish goods ruled the markets, supplemented by green and a few red supplies from Turkey. Low availability, not least due to grocery store offers, continued the upward price trend of last week. Customers had to dig deepest into their pockets for the greens.
