Peruvian orange exports plummet in the first half of the year

Peru exported 269 tons of oranges worth 226,000 dollars in the first half of the year, i.e. 82% less volume and 71% less value than in the same period of the previous year. According to Fresh Fruit, the average price in the international market decreased by 59% and stood at 0.84 dollars per kilogram.

Ecuador was the main destination for Peruvian oranges, with a 57% share. Peru exported 158 tons worth 107,000 dollars to that market, i.e. 25% less volume and 19% less value than in 2021. The average price was $0.68 per kilogram, 7% higher than last year. Exports to this destination were led by Selva Industrial S.A., with 95% participation.

The United States was the second destination with a 22% stake. The US purchased 33 tons of Peruvian oranges for 32,000 dollars, this was seven times more volume and 6 times more value than in the first half of 2021. However, the price quoted in this country decreased by 20%, leaving it at 0.96 dollars per kilogram. The main exporter to the United States was Casa Chica S.A.C., with 91% participation.

Shipments of Peruvian oranges to Colombia also increased and amounted to a 6% share. Peru exported 20 tons for 22,000 dollars to this destination, i.e. four times more volume, and value than in the same period of the previous year. The price quoted in this market fell by 10%, reaching 1.08 dollars per kilogram. Exports to this destination were led by Procesadora Laran S.A.C., with 73% participation.
