Chilean Cherry Committee estimated the export volume of cherries for the second time, with a 6.6% decrease

Recently the Cherry Committee (Comité de Cerezas) under the Fruit Exporters Association of Chile (ASOEX) released its second estimate of the export volume of cherries in 2021-2022. It is expected that the export volume this season will be 72,367,963 boxes (5 kg/box), approximately 361,840 tons. The first estimated data was 77,453,626 boxes (5 kg/box), which is about 387,268 tons. This new figure represents an increase of 2.6% from the previous quarter and a decrease of 6.6% from the first estimate announced on November 10.

Chilean cherries exported by members of the Chilean Cherry Committee accounted for more than 82% of Chilean cherries exports. The committee emphasized that the participation rate of members in the second estimate was very high, and 94 of the committee’s 95 members participated in this estimate.

China is still the largest export destination of Chilean cherries this season, although the proportion of receipts is estimated to fall from 91% to 88%. Cristián Tagle, chairman of the Chilean Cherry Committee, said that the quality of cherries this season is very good, and they are fully prepared to meet all the requirements of the destination market and avoid any setbacks.

So far, Chile has exported more than 53,000 tons of cherries to different international markets.

The Chilean Cherry Committee pointed out that the second estimate is the final estimate, but if there is a change, it will be notified.
