This year is not over yet, but Brazilian fruit exports have already surpassed the 2020 shipments, both in volume and in revenue.. According to data from Secex (Foreign Trade Department), until November, the total volume of fresh fruit shipped abroad, including citrus peels and melons, is 1.05 million tons, with sales of just over $995 million.
The performance, which was already positive in 2020 (with revenue reaching US$ 935.4 million, in the middle of the pandemic), has been even better this year – raising expectations regarding the fulfillment of the target established by the export market , to raise US$ 1 billion from foreign fruit sales.
In addition to the increased international demand, Brazilian shipments in this segment have been reinforced by the domestic scenario in 2021 (due to the restricted income of Brazilians and the consequent lower domestic consumption) and by the appreciation of the dollar and the euro against the Real; on the supply side, the favorable climate for the production of some products has been beneficial to shipments.
