Grupo Cartama, which has been exporting Hass avocado for more than 20 years, announced that it will be the next company in the sector to receive B Certification, achieving the best score in the areas of governance, workers, and clients in Latin America. The companies that are certified as B Companies are those that measure their social and environmental impact committing themselves personally, institutionally, and legally to make decisions taking into consideration the long-term consequences of their actions on the community and the environment.

It also encompasses our commitment to the environment, working for a social commitment, our collaborators' application of good environmental practices, which are fundamental to continue building sustainable development, our commitment to the communities, to generating close links to improve their quality of life providing them with opportunities and well-being, bringing progress through decent work. It includes our commitment to the future of the country, to continue cultivating love and pride for responsible and sustainable agriculture in Colombia, and with sustainability, which is the way to guarantee a positive future that impacts and inspires future generations to continue actively caring for our environment,” stated Ricardo Uribe Lalinde, CEO of Grupo Cartama.
To achieve B Certification, the company had to integrate each of its areas, from its nursery, to its crops and packing plant, implementing traceability of the practices that needed to be improved. The company also worked to launch the Cartama Ecosystem, a series of sustainable services for Colombian agriculture to help producers create a greener future and transfer knowledge, providing them with technical assistance, financial services, sale of inputs, specialized workforce, precision agriculture, and the accompaniment of the Cartama R+D+I research group and Avolab, which are specialized in the study of avocado.
Uribe Lalinde said they expect to close 2021 with a 25% growth over the previous year, with a total of 1,500 employees, and with a 185% growth in the office in Europe, where nearly 90% of the current production is negotiated.
