Mexico and Morocco strengthen their commercial relationship and their technical and scientific cooperation

The head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader) of Mexico, Victor Villalobos, and the Moroccan ambassador to Mexico, Abdelfattah Lebbar, held an online meeting in which they agreed to strengthen commercial relationships and technical and scientific cooperation between both countries to expand and improve their agri-food offer.

Villalobos and Lebbar outlined joint actions to be developed, including the exchange of technical information on foods that each country is interested in marketing and the invitation to Mexican producers to participate in the Moroccan agri-food and fishing fairs in 2022.

They also agreed to identify potential topics of collaboration, such as aquaculture and fishing techniques, irrigation systems, use of fertilizers, and animal health to establish virtual and in situ mechanisms so that specialists from each country know their counterparts' methodologies.

The Secretary of Agriculture stressed that the priority of the Government of Mexico is to diversify agri-food markets so that national producers, especially small ones, participate in new commercial niches. They also stressed that Morocco represented a great opportunity to increase the presence of Mexican food in North Africa.

The Moroccan ambassador said that trade between both countries was small regarding their existing capacities. He also said that, unlike most countries in the world, both nations had a privileged geographical position that enhanced their food production.
