In Taravao, French Polynesia, a farm produces fruit and vegetables all year round using a method of cultivation above ground: aquaponics. This method is based on an autonomous closed circuit where fish are the basic nutrients without the need to use phytosanitary products.
6,000 m² of greenhouses are used for the production of organic salads and tomatoes, which are sold to the local supermarkets.
The fish used are barramundi and tilapia. The males provide the nitrates necessary for the crops.
