Branston looking to expand

A Lincolnshire-headquartered potato business has submitted plans for a new processing facility.

Branston, which supplies own-label products to supermarkets, such as Tesco, as well as selling under its own brand, is seeking the go-ahead for a 10,462 sq ft building reports www.insidermedia.com.

North Kesteven District Council is expected to make a final decision in the coming months.

A document submitted to the authority on behalf of the applicant said: "The design of the buildings and the landscaping proposed will help ameliorate the impacts of this development and assimilate the extension into the landscape.

"Furthermore, the careful use of lighting should reduce the impact of this development which is situated on the edge of open countryside.

"Finally, as advised the economic impacts/benefits of this facility must be recognised.

"These are not just the 392 persons employed directly by the facility, but also all the farms and associated businesses which service this site.

"The proposal to expand the existing site will ensure that these jobs are safeguarded and result in a modern extended facility which meets the needs of its customers, whilst also ensuring that the visual and residential amenities of the area are not compromised."
