Chile's Minister of Agriculture, Antonio Walker, and the Minister of the Chinese General Administration, Ni Yuefeng, signed, within the framework of the Chile Week 2019 celebration, a pre-agreement for the opening of the Chinese market for Chilean citrus fruits, setting the parameters of the signature between President Sebastián Piñera and Chinese President Xi Jingping at the next APEC summit.
"This agreement will allow us to export lemons, oranges, mandarins, grapefruits, and clementines to China, which is great news for citrus growers in Chile," Minister Walker stated.
Since Chile is one of the 20 countries with the greatest susceptibility to the effects of climate change, the national delegation also met with the Minister of the National Forest and Grassland Administration of China (NFGA), Zhang Jianlong, to learn about China's experience in forest fire prevention, management, and reforestation, so as to improve Chile's response in the fight against forest fires.
Finally, the Secretary of State met with the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, (MARA), Han Changfu, with whom he signed the agreement for the renewal of the Chinese farm project in Chile.
