The Bolzano Chamber of Commerce and the Assomela in Trento are regularly publishing current stocks of apples in the Trentino Alto Adige region. The overview from the start of May is now online.
According to surveys by Assomela and the Chamber of Commerce, the cooperatives in the region had a total of 281,762 tonnes of tableware as of 1 June. At the same time, it was 65,974 tonnes in 2018 and 257,024 tonnes in 2017. More than two-thirds of the stocks in stock are Golden Delicious (195,071 tonnes), followed by Braeburn (17,633 tonnes), Granny Smith (16,498 tonnes) and Red Delicious (15,192 tonnes) in order of quantity.
A direct comparison with the previous year appears difficult because of the very low crop yield at that time - for all varieties, the stocking quantity in 2017/18 was far lower than currently. If one uses marketing year 2016/17 as a comparison, then the volumes of the Golden Delicious, Red Delicious and Gala varieties are lower than at that time; for all others they are higher. The Kanzi variety is not collected separately in the statistics - but the increasing proportion of "other varieties" is probably an indication that this is also in the plus.
Also interesting is the course of the marketing season. In May, a total of 164,976 tonnes of apples were gotten from the stocks in the Trentino / South Tyrol region. Exactly half of them were Golden Delicious apples (82,509 tonnes), followed by Red Delicious (21,142 tonnes) and Fuji (11,475 tonnes).
