André Boon, Scherpenhuizen:

Mango season in Ivory Coast and Mali finished earlier"

The African mango season has had an off-year this season, which has resulted in a delayed supply with lower volumes. "Ivory Coast has shipped most this week, and I expect the last arrivals from here at the end of the month, which will end the season earlier than expected," says André Boon of the firm Scherpenhuizen.

The importer started slightly earlier this year with importing mangoes from Mali and this season is also expected the end earlier, mid June rather than the end of the month. Scherpenhuizen will then switch to the Senegalese mango season. "It's a strange year for African mangoes, but we aren't unsatisfied. The quality of the African mangoes is also good," says André .

"At the moment we have a good amount on the market. The market is reasonable to good and I don't see it going down any time soon," says André. "We are also still receiving Palmer mangoes from Brazil at the moment, but these aren't large volumes. There were some quality problems with the Brazilian mangoes a few weeks ago, but the quality of the Palmer we're receiving at the moment is reasonable to good."
