Research seeks more productive tomato for southeast Turkey

A project is being carried out in Sanliurfa, a city located in southeastern Turkey, to identify the best tomato variety that is suitable for the city’s climate. That specific variety needs to have resistance to high temperatures, drought and salt.

15 different varieties are being planted as part of the project and the engineers will observe their reaction to different climate factors to determine the variety with the highest tolerance level.

After the identification of the most suitable tomato variety for these climate conditions, the growers in the area will be informed about the results of the research. Current climate conditions are resulting in low levels of productivity in the area and it is hoped that the the new variety will solve the productivity problems for the growers.
