Business was fairly quiet across the board. The autumn holidays had limited accommodation options in some areas. Nevertheless, prices remained stable overall according to the German BLE. In Munich, the price range for domestic Annabelle potatoes widened in both directions, with the origin of the offers being the decisive factor.
There are far too many potatoes this year. And that has pushed down the price. Since November 2024, the producer price, i.e., what Hubbert gets per ton of potatoes, has fallen by around 42 percent. Prices are between €8 and €15 per 100 kilograms, the lowest they have been since 2021.

Now that storage is complete, packing companies and retailers are continuing to source fresh potatoes straight from the field this week. There are still no changes on the industrial potato market. The industrial potato harvest is well underway.
Lower Saxony:
Prices are rock bottom, the market is oversaturated, and the weather is making harvesting even more difficult. "Anyone who hasn't harvested their potatoes yet needs to hurry," says Thorsten Riggert, chairman of the Plant Committee at Landvolk Niedersachsen. "The current weather conditions make it impossible to bring in much more." Although the harvest of processing and starch potatoes officially runs until the end of November, the persistent rain is making the work extremely difficult. "As soon as it stops, we have to get out there immediately," says Riggert.
Saxony-Anhalt:
Cultivation conditions in Saxony-Anhalt were also ideal this year. Rainfall was evenly distributed and there was hardly any heat damage. "This year's harvest is excellent," says Ulf Gehrmann, chairman of the Zörbig agricultural cooperative. The quality of the produce is also impressive this year: according to the cooperative, the tubers are mostly large, heavy, and flawless.
Rhineland-Palatinate:
It will be the largest potato harvest in Germany in 25 years, but the Palatinate Grumbeere potatoes are plagued by pests – namely the larvae of the fast beetle. Potato producers unanimously confirm that the cultivation risk is increasing.
The fundamental market situation for potatoes remains unchanged. The harvest is now likely to be complete nationwide, but there is still pressure on supply from temporary storage facilities in surplus areas. Packages weighing 5 kg or more are increasingly found in food retail outlets, but neither promotions nor exports are providing any noticeable impetus. Warehouses are filled to above-average levels, but surcharges for high-quality stored goods are not foreseeable for the moment.
Schleswig-Holstein:
After the end of the main harvest, supply pressure remains high. However, prices are holding steady at their low level. Only the best quality products can still be sold in stores. Substandard goods are sent to biogas plants, used for animal feed, or left in the fields. However, there are no price increases in sight for stored goods either. This week, public holidays are slowing down trade. From next week onwards, there are hopes that demand in food retail will pick up as the holidays come to an end and the new month begins. Special offers have so far only led to a slight upturn in sales in food retail.
Hesse:
There have been no significant price changes in Hesse compared to the previous week.
