Tran Van Chuc - Truong An Food:

"Demand for New Zealand onions is increasing, but they must be competitive with local and Chinese onions"

This week, Truong An Food received the final container of New Zealand onions for this season. "This year the quality of New Zealand onions has been stable from early on right up to the end," said Tran Van Chuc, Director of Purchasing, Marketing, and Operations at Truong An Food. The first shipment arrived in Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City) last March.

"We have seen almost all onions arrive in good quality. There has been a small amount of sprouting, but this is due to the long transportation time, which is 55 days. We receive the 60-80mm size of popular onions."

Trong An Food has increased the import of New Zealand onions this year by 40%. "Demand for New Zealand onions is increasing, but they must be competitive with local onions and Chinese onions. We are also importing onions from the Netherlands this year."

"The Vietnamese onion supply is stable, but quality decreases towards the end of the season. The new season begins in early December, and we are thrilled at the great quality of the early onions in the new 2025 season, which we are ready to deliver to all retailers and Horeca."
