Poland expects a 15% increase in potato production

Poland's Agency for Restructuring and Modernization of Agriculture (ARiMR) forecasts potato production will reach 6.8 million tons this year, 15% more than last season. This rise results from both expanding cultivated areas and higher yields per hectare, supported by favorable prices in recent years.

Some sector representatives dispute this forecast and believe that production could surpass 7.5 million tons, depending on the final progress of the harvests. According to official data, the average yield is 31.8 tons per hectare, 5% higher than in 2024, when it was 30.2 tons per hectare. Despite a dry spring, subsequent rains helped restore the potential of the tubers.

The area devoted to potato cultivation is also increasing. The area, which declined from over 300,000 hectares in 2020 to less than 200,000 hectares, is expected to continue growing in 2025.

By contrast, other crops are expected to decline. Sugar beet production will decrease by 8% from 2024, reaching approximately 16.9 million tons. This decline results from a 7% reduction in cultivated areas and an average yield of about 65 tons per hectare.
