Paul Hussey - Donnelly Fresh Produce:

"Yields are very good and average sizes are on the larger side compared to recent years"

The weather this year in Ireland has been fantastic for pumpkins. Conditions were warm and settled through the key growing months, and Donnelly Fresh Produce produced its biggest-ever crop.

"The pumpkins are looking excellent, strong colour, good shape, and great quality overall," said Paul Hussey, Senior Trading Manager at the company.

"We now grow over 100 acres (40 hectares) of pumpkins, making us the largest pumpkin grower in the Republic of Ireland. Yields have been very good this season, and average sizes are on the larger side compared to recent years."

Donnelly's first pumpkins went into stores on 6th October, right on schedule.

"Approximately 80% of our production is ringfenced for retail customers, supplying the main supermarket chains across Ireland."

Donnellys also grows the white Ghost pumpkins, and will have around 100,000 in production this year.
