"The demand for kale increases every year. At this stage, orders are three times higher than a year ago," reports Riccardo Giacomini, sales manager of Sipo.

"While kale is not new, its growth rate is surprising. We offer it in 500-gram flowpacks or loose. Sales are mostly to the Italian big retail trade, but we also have customers in Greece, Switzerland, and Lithuania, to name a few. Production takes place at our partner farmers in two areas: Romagna and Fucino."

"An increasingly comforting aspect is the fact that consumption has become less seasonal and demand is almost continuous, also due to the fact that kale is increasingly seen in a health-conscious light. Prices are satisfactory in this period."

Sipo is also a specialist in other 'niche' products, which are growing steadily. This is the case with beetroots and celeriac. When it comes to celeriac, this is what is known as a 'root vegetable', white in colour and globe-shaped. The leaves are dark green, the stems are hollow on the inside, and the root system has considerable development.
As for Sipo's beetroots, they are mostly cultivated in the Veneto region and are highly valued for their antioxidant properties. They are sold without leaves and eaten cooked. They are very popular due to the red colour of the inner pulp.
