Cooperativa Gloria (Italy)

Four decades delivering authentic flavors

"Forty years ago, we planted a seed. Today, we are reaping the fruits of our unwavering commitment to quality and our customers' trust. This journey fills us with pride and propels us toward the future," says Michele Volpone, president of Cooperativa Gloria, which is now celebrating its 40th anniversary.

Its long history began in 1985 in Ordona, in the province of Foggia, where it established a strong foothold in Apulia's fruit and vegetable sector. The cooperative is dedicated to the production and distribution of fresh, premium-quality vegetables, with a particular emphasis on the promotion of seasonal, local produce and the integration of sustainable agricultural practices. The company's operations include selecting, packaging, and marketing the products delivered by its members.

The company specializes in marketing four main products: artichokes, asparagus, broccoli, and black cabbage, also known as Tuscan kale. Approximately 300 hectares are dedicated to these crops each year: 140 hectares for artichokes, 100 hectares for broccoli, 50 hectares for asparagus, and 10 hectares for black cabbage. Sales Manager Michele Sena emphasizes the daily care that goes into each product. "Each crop is carefully selected to ensure freshness, authenticity, and genuine flavor, meeting the expectations of customers who are increasingly focused on well-being and quality."

Cooperativa Gloria's sales are mainly concentrated in central and northern Italy and, in recent years, have been expanding into foreign markets, including countries such as France, Germany, and Poland. Michele Volpone reiterates: "The main characteristic that sets us apart is certainly our reliability and fairness in carrying out our business in all its phases, a quality for which our customers have chosen us and continue to choose us."

The cooperative offers a range of packaging solutions tailored to market needs. Broccoli is available in standardized 500-gram packs of 10 or 12 units or sold in bulk; packaging options include cardboard, wood, and plastic under the cooperative's brand, as well as CPR and polymer materials for private labels. These products are supplied to large-scale retail chains both nationally and internationally. Purple artichokes are processed and packaged based on whether the leaves are included. We provide fifteen packaging formats: seven exclude leaves and come in bundles of three, four, or five units, or crates of sixteen, twenty, twenty-four, or forty units; the other eight include leaves and are offered in bundles of three, four, or five, or in crates of sixteen, twenty, twenty-four, twenty-five, or thirty units. Green asparagus is sold in 500-gram bundles and graded by diameter ranges: 8–12 mm, 12–16 mm, and 16–22 mm, packed in cardboard, wood, or plastic. Finally, black cabbage is marketed loose or in bunches and packaged in plastic.

The cooperative's production calendar aligns with the seasonality of the crops, ensuring fresh, high-quality products harvested during their optimal months. This approach respects the natural cycles of the earth, preserving authenticity and flavor. Asparagus is available from March to May; broccoli, from October to May; purple artichokes, from October to May; Tema artichokes, from November to April; and black cabbage, from October to April.
