Gabriele Ferri: "We had an excellent June, though July saw a slowdown, yet we can't complain"

The market trend for peaches and nectarines is favorable

The peach and nectarine campaign is going quite smoothly. Gabriele Ferri, General Manager of Naturitalia, takes stock of the situation. "June was an extraordinary month, with high-quality products and high demand from all markets, both in Italy and abroad. I don't think I can remember a June that was so positive, with exceptional organoleptic quality fruit and very favorable prices."

"Things went well during the first 10 to 15 days of July," he continues. "However, there was a shift in the weather patterns in Italy and Europe in the middle of the month, and sales were hindered by rain and decreased temperatures.

Can one, therefore, speak of negative moments? No, not at all," Ferri points out. "Just a slowdown in demand. However, given that the availability of peaches and nectarines throughout the Mediterranean basin is lower than the demand, or at least balanced, we can understand that the season is going well with more than satisfactory prices."

Ferri emphasizes that there are still 30 to 40 days left in the growing season, so they are urging their producers to carefully tend to their plants. The reason for this is that they are receiving requests from all over Europe for fruit that can compete in terms of flavor. Countries like Spain and Turkey are not exerting pressure on the markets. "We can sell without stock. In other words, there is no excess inventory this year."
