Morocco becomes top UK blueberry supplier

Morocco has become the leading supplier of blueberries to the United Kingdom, according to EastFruit. Between July 2024 and June 2025, Moroccan exporters shipped 19,000 tons of blueberries to the UK, valued at US$144 million. This represents a 44% year-on-year increase and double the volume recorded in the 2022/23 season, reaching a new all-time high. Over the past five seasons, Morocco has expanded its blueberry exports to the UK more than tenfold.

Morocco, which has led the UK raspberry market since the 2022/23 season, has now achieved a similar position in blueberries. Although the first recorded shipments of Moroccan blueberries to the UK occurred in 2009, growth accelerated after Brexit. In 2019/20, Morocco ranked eighth among UK suppliers. By 2021/22, it had risen to third place, overtook Spain in 2022/23, and nearly matched Peru's volumes in 2023/24. In the current season, Morocco has surpassed all competitors to secure the top position.

The UK is now one of Morocco's main blueberry export destinations, following Spain and the Netherlands. Morocco's season runs from December to June, with peak volumes in April. During this period, Spain, the Netherlands, and Germany were Morocco's main competitors in the UK market.

Rising UK consumer demand continues to drive blueberry imports. This season, nearly all major suppliers increased shipments, except Spain and Chile. Morocco recorded the strongest growth, and blueberries from the country accounted for nearly 25% of total UK imports. Moroccan supply dominated several months, exceeding 50% of the UK market share in March and May and reaching up to 75% in April.
