The early varieties of the Turkish pomegranates are soon to be harvested, with the main varieties following suit shortly after, says Mehmet Mutlu, export manager for Turkish fresh produce exporter Islek Group: "We are about to start pomegranate season with the 'Early Wonderful' variety. We expect to start after the 25th of August and hope to pack more than 1,000 tons of the early variety pomegranates for our main clients. After this, we will continue with our regular varieties, such as Hicaz and Wonderful. In total, we expect to pack and export more than 12,000 tons of fresh pomegranates for the 2025-2026 winter season."

According to Mutlu, the weather has ensured a plentiful harvest, and the quality is also on par. "This year, thanks to favorable weather conditions, we anticipate a high-quality and high-quantity harvest, particularly for the Hejaz pomegranate variety. We plan to harvest a total of 15,000 tons of pomegranates from our own production area of approximately 150 hectares, as well as from our contracted growers."

Other than the pomegranate season, the exporter is currently still busy with various summer fruits: "Right now, we're in the midst of the summer season of 2025, with watermelons, stone fruits, and the newly started Sultana grapes, as well as black figs. The watermelon season specifically was a great one, as we had more than 7,000 tons of seedless watermelons in June and July," Mutlu concludes.
