Next to apples, Polish exporter LVMG also deals in blueberries. According to Aniruddh Ramesh, director of LVMG Grupa, the blueberry season is improving after a somewhat rough start: "Due to quite adverse weather conditions in Poland, the blueberry harvest has been slow, but gradually getting better each week. Means more fruits are coming for sorting every week. For blueberries, the season doesn't seem as bad as it was predicted; we can see a fairly good production. Popular varieties in Poland like Blue crop average a yield of 10 tons per hectare; there are some varieties like Draper and Calypso, which can also average 15 tons per hectare, according to our growers."

Ramesh states that a lot of apple growers are still increasing their pear cultivation. "Pear production is absolutely getting more popular each season in Poland, as prices have been very favorable to the growers each season. As a result, we notice many growers of apples either moving to or expanding their pear production."

Polish apple prices have increased over the past years, but most growers feel this has been a step in the right direction. Ramesh isn't so sure if this is true when looking at export to countries outside of Europe: "The growers feel justified with the prices they received during the last apple season, however for trade outside Poland and EU I don't think it's as great, as our apples wouldn't be very attractive and competitive for big sales at these prices. Thankfully, the logistics have been very good and effective; there have been no issues with containers or major delays. We're happy with the current services offered to us by our forwarders and shipping lines."

"We hope for a normal harvest, which means fair price and good quality for a healthy trading season. Only time will tell if this happens," Ramesh concludes.
