At Hermans Suikermaïs, the Dutch season has started again. "We are extremely early this year, 14 days earlier than usual, and even three weeks earlier than last year," says Giel Hermans. "We've had a fantastic growing season, and the maize is looking superb this year. Quite a contrast to last year when we could only harvest 9 out of 35 hectares of early maize due to the rain. This year, we can harvest the full acreage, and with top quality!"

The Hermans Suikermaïs team is gearing up for the 2025 harvest season
"We'll celebrate the start of the season on Thursday and Friday with a special promotion offering loose maize for fresh produce wholesalers. They can contact us for a special price. Dutch supermarkets will also kick off full promotions from next week, so sweetcorn will be in the spotlight throughout the coming month."

In recent weeks, Hermans mainly relied on Spanish maize. That supply seemed compromised due to the severe weather earlier this year. "But with a bit of creative effort, we've managed to supply customers in recent months. Still, we're happy to now begin the Dutch harvest on such a strong note. Hopefully, the barbecue weather continues, so we can provide our customers with plenty of Dutch products."
