Hapag-Lloyd orders automatic twistlocks for A19 ships

MacGregor has received an order from Hapag-Lloyd to supply its fully automatic twistlocks (ACV-1), known as "Hippo," aimed at improving cargo handling efficiency on container ships. Twistlocks are essential components used to secure containers during transport, ensuring vessel stability and operational safety.

The order will support Hapag-Lloyd's A19-series vessels, a fleet of six 19,900 TEU container ships: Al Nefud, Al Dahna Express, Barzan, Al Muraykh, Al Zubara, and Tihama. The order was placed in the first quarter of 2025, with deliveries scheduled to begin in the second quarter and conclude by the fourth quarter of 2026.

This procurement reflects ongoing efforts by Hapag-Lloyd to enhance cargo capacity and operational performance while addressing safety and environmental considerations in container shipping.

Dr.-Ing. Christoph Thiem, Director of Fleet Innovation & Technology at Hapag-Lloyd, stated that the adoption of the fully automatic twistlocks aligns with the company's goals to improve efficiency in cargo operations.

MacGregor's Senior Vice President of Equipment and Solutions, Magnus Sjöberg, noted the company's continued focus on providing container securing systems that meet the operational demands of the shipping industry.

MacGregor also supplies other cargo securing equipment, including lashing gear such as rods and turnbuckles. This latest order adds to the company's portfolio of securing solutions used by global container carriers.
